Statement From The Editor On Abuse

Dear Non.Plus Readers,

I’m writing this letter in order to address recent information we’ve received about a poet we published in our magazine. I want to do everything in my power to make our literary space safer for those who are systemically targeted in every facet of life. It has been brought to our attention that this poet has bullied, misgendered, and abused women and nonbinary folk. Because of this, I will be removing his poem from our magazine. This is an action to protect those in our community. While I do believe real change in individuals is not only possible, but necessary in order to tear down the structures which allow abuse to go unnoticed, it is impossible for me to judge individual change in a person. In any situation where there is the even slightest doubt of whether or not a person’s past actions reflect who they are currently, we choose to side with survivors—who are pushed aside and silenced elsewhere.

I apologize greatly for those who have been harmed by us publishing his work. Non.Plus Lit is a magazine which was created to bolster and protect the voices of the seldom heard, especially women and the LGBTQ community. We condemn the actions by this poet and any similar actions by anyone in our literary community. This is a decision I have made as Editor in Chief of Non.Plus Lit. If there is any backlash, it should be directed toward me and no one else. Thank you for your support, for your words, and for speaking out against behavior which is unacceptable. We will always listen to you.

Jarrett Moseley, Editor in Chief
