Moon Jam!
Dear NPL readers, supporters, contributors, family…
Over the past nine months, building the magazine side of Non.Plus Lit has been one of the best experiences of my life. We’ve hired a dedicated and passionate masthead, put together two amazing issues of poetry, and published an issue of incredible essays by Black writers. As someone whose primary medium is poetry, I started NPL with the goal of publishing poems and voices that may not be heard elsewhere. But seeing the spirit of our magazine grow beyond my vision—watching it become a reflection of our masthead’s imagination and empathy— has shown me that Non.Plus Lit is about more than poetry. At the heart of NPL is an eros that seeks to build community, to reject all forms of oppression, and create a home for art, and thinking, that is uncontainably alive. To expand on that eros, we’ve decided to begin developing Non.Plus Lit beyond just our magazine. The first step in that process is the creation of this blog: Moon Jam.
Moon Jam is meant to be a space for exploration. Don’t ask us why we chose the name—we don’t know! That’s the point. NPL has always been about wading into the unknown, accepting certain uncertainties, and finding, in the process of searching, truth. Our editors have been working hard on several different projects for Moon Jam. Some things to expect—highlights of our NPL poetry readers; a series on poets from Africa, Asia, and the Diaspora; interviews; and a poetry-focused astrology series titled Sun Jam, of which the first post is now published. We’ll keep you updated through our social media, newsletter, and website when new posts are scheduled. Until then—thank you for your continuing support and love. We can’t wait to show you what’s next.
